Total time it took me to cast my ballot: 10 minutes which included getting in the car, driving to the polling place, filling in the bubbles, feeding my ballot into the scanner thing, driving home, and getting back into my pajamas. Don't even try to tell me you don't have time to vote!
We pulled up to the church where my family votes and there was a little old man creeping up the sidewalk with his walker. By time I was done, he was just getting into his car. Now that is a commitment to civic duty.
I had a real, authentic moment of patriotic pride when I filled in the bubble next to Kerry's name. I felt like I was stacking a claim on my opinion, that my gut feeling about who should be running this country was validated by a little black bubble on a sheet of paper. I'm only one person but my opinion is right there, in black and white, on an official government document. And no matter who wins, I'll know that my vote was counted and I was a very small part of a big day.
Wow, you are one lucky girl! I left for my polling place (about a mile from my house) at 9:45, got there at 10:00, and didn't get back home until nearly 1:00. Voting took all of 20 seconds; standing in line took all of two hours. :)
