A month ago, I posted about how I was having a really good year. Of course, two weeks after writing that, things started to go downhill fast. I totally jinxed myself.
A friend of mine took his own life which was an absolute shock, of course. I want to maintain his privacy so I'll just say that he was a good guy and a great friend and I miss him dearly.
Our older dog Maggie had a bad allergic reaction to some dog shampoo and had bumps all over her skin. The vet gave her an antibiotic and some Cortizon and she was fine again. A few days ago, we noticed that the bumps were back so I hauled her into the bathtub to wash her with the special shampoo. I noticed that the lymph nodes under her neck were really big, so today we brought her back to the vet.
While it's possible that her lymph nodes are swollen because of the allergic reaction, the vet is more worried that it's Lymphoma. She's on a course of antibiotics and if the swelling doesn't go down, he'll have to do a biopsy. If she does have Lymphoma, chemo is an option but we'll have to decide that when the time comes. She's 12 years old and while her mental health is still in tact, she's not in great shape otherwise. I'm praying that it's just allergies and the swelling will go down.
If you've known me for more than say, two seconds, you know how much I love my dogs. But when you bring an animal into your life, you have to know that the time you have with them is pretty short. I know I'll flip out if something really horrible does happen with Maggie. I also know that the life we've given her is the best any dog could ask for and when her time comes, we'll just have to say goodbye.
Oh but there's more!
My dad has to have surgery. He can barely walk and gets around with a cane or a walker. He's only 56, way too young for a cane! I couldn't tell you what the doctor says he has, all I know is that he has to have a surgery where they drill holes into the bone in his leg to help improve circulation. That's another thing I'll have to worry about when the time comes.
Shit happens sometimes. I just wish it wouldn't happen at all once! Geesh.
Jeeze! What a rough time.. :S Sorry to hear about all the goings on in your life right now that are less than good. :(
My Boston Terrier Letta got that same sort of bumpy under the skin a while back. I completely lost my shit..I was so afraid for her. She got a shot as well and went back to normal. I hope your puppy dog will do the same. And I hope your Daddio has a successful surgery. Keep your chin up! :)
