Up up upgrading
Today I went to my local Cingular store because my crappy Motorola V180 had become useless. It was dropping calls every twenty minutes, I couldn't get a signal anywhere (including outside in downtown Chicago for cryin' out loud) and it wouldn't connect to the internet at all. How does one buy a Hello Kitty wallpaper for one's phone if said phone won't go online? Off with its head.
I was really planning on simply buying a reasonable upgrade. I mean anything that actually worked would be better than what I had. I've been considering a camera phone because they're fun! So I looked at some of those. One was another Motorola but since I couldn't get a signal on that phone either, I wanted to try a Nokia. I don't remember what model I tried but it was too wide and didn't feel good in my hand.
I said to the guy "I've been looking at the Nokia 7610 online but it's way expensive." He gets all excited "I have one of those!" He grabs the box from the back and I'm already salivating but that damn phone retails for $500 without a plan. I'm not sure why* but he was able to sell it for way less... $215 after tax.
Isn't that crazy?!
I've said it before and I'll say it again - I'm not really into gadgets. There are products that I covet (cough Nano cough) but I don't usually lose my shit over a phone. I'm totally losing my shit right now.
The phone has a ton of features, most of which I probably haven't even discovered yet, but there is one really cool feature that I can use now - Lifeblog! Lifeblog is an app that you can download on your phone and use to send media to a TypePad blog. You can do pretty much the same thing via email but Lifeblog is just cool. I sent the pic of my dog in the last post from the Lifeblog app. Once you get it set up and going, it's pretty easy to use. There are still things I need to figure out, like configuring it to send thumbnails rather than big ass images.
The downside is that my service plan charges out the nose for data transfers so I might need to buy a separate package for that.
Anyway, I'm a happy girl. Going from a crap phone to a 7610 is sort of like junking a Pinto and buying a Mercedes. And before you become jealous of my awesome gadget score, consider the fact that I'm online, on a Friday night, blogging about my new cell phone and watching QVC.
Oh! And the pumpkin spice Frap is excellent.
* I think it was intended for in store use but it's brand new.
